First Look: Arsenal SLR-104FR AK-74 Rifle

There is great news in store for all of you AK fans out there. Arsenal Inc. has just informed us that their factory-manufactured Bulgarian 5.45x39.5mm rifle with a side-folding stock is now available to the U.S. market.

The new-to-us SLR-104FR has been one of the most sought-after AK variants for U.S. collectors, as there have been only three prototypes circulating the country — until now. This Bulgarian factory-made rifle is constructed using only premium-grade parts and assembled using the strict quality and technical guidelines that Arsenal has become known for.

The SLR-104FR features a Mil-Spec stamped receiver and a hammer-forged and chrome-lined barrel, and it comes complete with a left-side folding polymer stock. One of the obvious highlights is the folding polymer stock, which is manufactured to the true specs of the original design and is made of Mil-Spec reinforced polymer. The buttstock uses a standard 4.5mm pin and is interchangeable with other standard side-folding stocks with the same-diameter pinholes, should the user want to swap it out.

The side-mounted scope rail is designed to work with Arsenal's own SM-13 scope mount. However, it is also compatible with many of today's aftermarket scope mounts, some of which use convenient quick-release throw levers.

Arsenal utilizes its own U.S.-made fire-control group, complete with a two-stage hammer and a trigger that completely eliminates trigger slap. This addition greatly enhances the shooter's ability to wring out the SLR-104FR's accuracy potential.

The barrel is threaded to standard 24x1.5mm right-hand threads, and it comes with a removable muzzlebrake that does a great job keeping the muzzle aligned on target. Well-insulated handguards (with a stainless steel heatshield) keep your support hand cool, even during sustained fire. Bayonet and accessory lugs are positioned on the front sight block and gas block, respectively.

The SLR-104FR is available with your choice of black or desert sand stock sets, and each rifle comes with an assortment of factory accessories to include a 30-round Bulgarian Circle 10 magazine, sling, oil bottle, cleaning kit and cleaning rod.

With a retail price of $1,099, an authentic Bulgarian 5.45x39mm side-folder is finally within reach.
