Feeding Your Firearms with Aguila Ammunition

Feeding Your Firearms with Aguila Ammunition

Whether you everyday carry, hunt, shoot competitively, or enjoying plinking just for fun, Aguila Ammunition has the ammo to feed your firearm and a cast of distinguished pro-staff shooters to draw a crowd. Our Joe Kriz found that out from the Aguila booth at the 2019 SHOT Show.

Rubbing shoulders with the likes of competitive shooters Mark Redl, David Miller, Zeph Thull, and the husband-wife team of Chris and Michelle Cerino (who also contribute to Guns & Ammo Magazine), we discussed new products from Aguila, the Aguila Cup, and everyone’s favorite new guns launched at the show.

In addition to new bulk packaging for cartridges like 5.56×45 Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail, now shipping in 300-round boxes, Aguila announced the new 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum Varmint Jacketed Hollow Point. A 30-grain bullet traveling at 2,300 fps, the new cartridge delivers over 180 ft/lbs at 100 yards and mushrooms with devastating results on varmint.

But it wouldn’t be a conversation with competitive shooters if we didn’t talk competition! Scheduled for June 20-23 at Fossil Pointe Shooting Grounds in Decatur, TX, the second-annual Aguila Cup will feature multiple shooting disciplines, including sporting clays, 3-gun, rimfire, and more. More than a competition, the three-day event is also a great opportunity to try something new and learn from Aguila’s Pro-Staff.

Guns & Ammo TV: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. .375 H&H

The 6.5 Creedmoor and the .375 H&H are almost complete opposites, or are they? The 6.5 Creedmoor is a newer and popular cartridge that transcends long-range precision rifle shooting and hunting big game. The .375 H&H is more than a century old, but still a popular and versatile choice for hunting big and dangerous game. For this shoot, Pro Tom Beckstrand, former U.S. Army Special Operations officer and sniper team leader, faces off against Guns & Ammo TV cameraman Ben LaLonde in a challenge that highlights the differences between these two cartridges.

Shooting 600 Yards with .300 Blackout

The .300 Blackout cartridge was developed to provide greater effectiveness than a 9mm at short and medium ranges when fired from a short-barreled suppressed firearm. Just because the cartridge wasn't designed to go long doesn't mean Rifles & Optics Editor Tom Beckstrand won't take it there, using a large-format pistol, no less. Armed with SIG Sauer's 9-inch-barreled MCX Virtus Pistol loaded with Black Hills' 125-grain TMK ammunition, Beckstrand attempts to ring steel at 600 yards with help from Hornady's 4DOF ballistic calculator in this segment of “Long Range Tech.”

Pocket-Pistol Carry Tips and Tricks

Pocket-Pistol Carry Tips and Tricks

Pocket carry, as a method of concealed carry for a defensive firearm, can be a practical option when done right. This is especially true during the colder months when heavy outer garments can obstruct access to a traditional waistline holster. Former U.S. Navy SEAL Jeff Gonzales, president of Trident Concepts, joins G&A contributor Kimberly Heath-Chudwin to discuss guns, training and gear, including Blackhawk's TecGrip holster that can make pocket carry more successful.

A guide on how to pair .223 and 5.56 NATO rifle barrel twist rates with bullet weights. Conventional wisdom says slower twist rates wouldn't properly-stabilize a heavy bullet. On the other hand, faster rates could over-stabilize lighter bullets. This is correct in theory, however, modern ballisticians have all but debunked the over-stabilization theory. All things being equal, it is better to have too much twist than not enough.Pairing Barrel Twist Rates with Bullets for .223 and 5.56 NATO How-To
