Alexander Arms has announced it will relinquish the trademark for the 6.5 Grendel, now the official cartridge of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI).
"One of the primary purposes of trademarking the name was to protect the integrity of the design. With the adoption of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge standard by SAAMI, the design is now protected, and any confusion in the marketplace as to the specification of the cartridge has been eliminated," said Bill Alexander in a press release issued last week.
SAAMI's adoption of the 6.5 Grendel's design specifications led Alexander Arms to relinquish its federal trademark for the cartridge. "6.5 Grendel" will now become the commercial name for cartridges that adhere to SAAMI specifications.
Alexander Arms said the company is proud that the cartridge has received such recognition, adding it "is pleased to take this important step in the continued market development of this breakthrough cartridge."
