Top Selling Guns | January 2023

This month’s GunBroker.com Top Selling Report, presented by GunGenius.com, clearly shows that shooters are big fans of SIG’s P320 9mm pistol. The P320 is the number one selling used handgun for last month and ranks as the second-best-selling new handgun, having been edged out by its brand mate the P365.

SIG introduced the P320 in 2014 and three years later it was announced that the P320 had won the United States Army’s Modular Handgun competition. Military versions of the P320, the M17 (full-sized) and M18 (compact) would replace the Beretta M9. The next generation of American soldiers will serve with a SIG handgun by their side.

Over the past nine years, the P320 family has expanded substantially and now includes compact models, a combat version, and special Legion and Spectre editions among others. There’s even a new P320-XTEN pistol chambered in 10mm. Not surprisingly, most of the SIG P320 pistols available today have slides that are cut to accept reflex sights like SIG’s own ROMEO electro-optics.

One of the primary features of this pistol is the removable, serialized fire control unit (FCU). That offers a level of versatility not found in other handguns because you can swap grip frame sizes and even calibers. SIG now offers their P320 Studio which allows buyers to build their perfect P320 pistol. You can even add optics or engraving to these guns.

SIG P320 pistols are available in a variety of finishes including Cerakote, PVD, and Nitron, all of which hold up well against abuse. The ambidextrous slide stop and reversible magazine release allow this pistol to work with both right and left-handed shooters, and the P320 can be disassembled without pulling the trigger. Front and rear slide serrations make it easy to manipulate this pistol and micro-texturing on the grip surface allows the shooter to comfortably control the gun and gives the P320 a modern look.

In earning the top spot among used handguns and second place among new pistols, the SIG has outsold some perennial favorites including Glock’s G43X, G19, and G19 and the Beretta M92/M9. Is the military’s adoption of the P320/M17/M18 what is spurring the current uptick in sales? That’s a good question and one we’ll examine more closely as we continue to monitor trends in the firearms market going forward. But based on its past performance it’s safe to say that the SIG P320 will remain a popular choice for handgun owners in the future.
