February 2023’s GunBroker.com Top Selling Report , presented by GunGenius.com , is now available, and it’s clear that Ruger remains one of the top brands in virtually every segment of new rifle sales. Of the five new rifle product categories (Semi Auto Rifles, Bolt Action Rifles, Lever Action Rifles, Pump Action Rifles, and Single Shot Rifles), Ruger and their sister company Marlin own the top spot in three categories: bolt-action rifles, semiauto rifles, and lever-action rifles. Ruger’s No. 1 rifle is the fourth best-selling single shot rifle. The only new rifle category where Ruger or Marlin does not have a product ranking in the top four in sales for February is the pump-action rifle segment, though neither brand offers a product in that category.
These sales figures are certainly an ovation for Ruger/Marlin guns, but what’s perhaps most interesting about these figures is the wide range of successful firearm platforms these companies offer. For example, Ruger’s 10/22 is the best-selling semiauto rifle while the company’s new SFAR is second-place in that category. The company’s Mini-14 rifle ranks fifth this month in new rifle sales on GunBroker.com. Rankings for the 10/22, SFAR, and Mini-14 remain unchanged from last month, but despite being lumped into a single category these guns are very different. The 10/22 is a blowback-operated .22 LR semiauto designed by Bill Ruger and released in 1964. The SFAR is a small-frame centerfire AR rifle chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62x51 NATO that was only released a few months ago. The Mini-14 is a gas-operated, short-stroke, piston-operated carbine that was released in 1973 as a more compact variant of the M14. Three very different Ruger rifles with widely varying designs developed almost six decades apart claim 60 percent of GunBroker.com’s top-five semiauto rankings for last month.

Ruger’s success as a rifle manufacturer doesn’t end there. In the 2010s, a wide range of affordable, bolt-action hunting rifles hit the market but based on current sales the winner in that saturated market segment is Ruger’s American Rifle . Debuting in 2014, the American Rifle has become the top choice for shooters and hunters who want superb accuracy coupled with excellent value. The Ruger’s marksman Adjustable trigger is crisp and safe and can be adjusted from 3 to 5 pounds by the user, and these guns come with Ruger’s three-lug bolt, cold hammer-forged barrels, and Power Bedding system. There are currently seven American Rifle variants including a Compact version, A Hunter version with Magpul stock, a short-barreled Ranch model and a combo model that comes with a Vortex Crossfire II scope pre-mounted.
Ruger’s recent acquisition of Marlin has resulted in a new crop of 1895 lever-actions chambered in .45-70, and the current lineup includes the SBL and Trapper versions with polished stainless and satin stainless metal finishes (respectively) and the 1895 Guide Gun with a brown laminate stock and satin blued metal finish. Marlin recently announced the addition of a new Model 336 chambered in .30-30 that is slated to hit shelves early this year as well as an updated version of the 1894 lever-action that will come to market later this year.
Ruger’s No. 1 falling-block single shot , which debuted in 1967, remains one of the top four best-selling single shots in February 2023, falling from third place last month. This is particularly impressive considering that the No. 1 is the oldest rifle in the rankings and is currently only available as a Lipsey’s Exclusive in limited chamberings.
It wasn’t just the rifle category where Ruger found success in the latest report sales figures, either. The Mark IV maintained its position as the fifth best-selling semiauto pistol in February 2023.
