New Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) From Springfield Armory: Saint Victor 9mm

Springfield Armory has announced the release of the Saint Victor 9mm Carbine, the newest addition to their Victor line of AR-pattern rifles. This pistol caliber carbine (PCC) adds a new level of capability to the popular Saint Victor series.

“The new SAINT Victor 9mm Carbine adds yet another layer of capability to the Saint Victor line,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “Combining the familiar handling characteristics and proven design of an AR with the rugged performance of a direct blowback system, the Saint Victor in 9mm would make for a great addition to any shooter’s firearms collection.”

The Saint Victor 9mm PCC is designed for durability and performance. Its forged upper and lower recievers are spec'd specifically around its 9mm payload — these aren't simply modified AR-15 parts. The upper has a full length of Picatinny rail topside, and additional segments top the front and rear of the full-length free-floated handguard. Ample M-Lok-compatible mounting slots cover the diameter of the otherwise slick handguard, providing plenty of mounting points for accessories.

Unlike a direct-gas or piston-driven rifle-caliber carbine, the Saint Victor PCC is able to use a simple and robust direct-blowback system tuned for reliability with 9mm ammunition. The carbine wears a 16” barrel with 1:10 rifling and topped off with Springfield's Forward Blast Diverter. Besides looking cool, the muzzle device is designed to help vent the pressurized gases forward, away from the shooter.

Rather than rely on a new or untested design, Springfield opted to build the PCC around the proven Colt-pattern 32-round box magazines. Constructed of steel, the magazines interface with the carbine’s dedicated lower and magazine well. Again, there are no modifications or adaptors here, this is a 9mm platform from the ground up.

Other features include spring-loaded flip-up sights and polymer furniture from B5 Systems including a six-position collapsible Bravo Stock offering ergonomic cheekweld and no-slip cushioned buttpad, the Type 23 P-Grip and a polymer trigger guard. An ambidextrous safety ensures shooters can run the carbine from either shoulder, with either hand, without issue.
