Clint Eastwood’s famous character “Dirty Harry” Callahan touted the .44 Magnum as “the most powerful” in the world, but the .44 Mag. is actually very controllable in Raging Hunter revolvers from Taurus. Guns & Ammo’s Tom Beckstrand and Kimberly Heath-Chudwin, gunwriter and police officer, review the Raging Hunter in .44 Magnum using Hornady’s 200-grain XTP load. It proves ideal for hunting and back-country defense.
Besides the .44, the Taurus Raging Hunter is also available in .454 Casull. Guns & Ammo TV’s example featured a ported compensator at the end of its 8.37-inch barrel, which effectively shuts down felt recoil when combined with its 3-pound, 7-ounce weight. If you’re a hunter, a scope or red dot sight can be easily mounted on the barrel’s integral optic rail for fast-action accuracy or extended ranges. Retailing between $910 and $920, the Taurus Raging Hunter series is competitively priced in the handgun hunting category to meet the needs of any outdoorsman.
