GOSAFE Mobile Safe and Mobile Mag are two different security devices. The Mobile Mag is a lockable magazine that accepts 10 rounds of ammunition. The Mobile Safe is an inert, magazine-shaped device that cannot be loaded with ammunition and simply prevents the pistol from being loaded. Using a uniquely cut key, Mobile Mag and Mobile Safe prevent the pistol from functioning and renders the pistol inoperable. These products are currently available for several double-stack Glock models only. GO SAFE Mobile Safe MSRP $80; GO SAFE Mobile Mag MSRP $100 (Photo by Alfredo Rico)

There Is no shortage of safe storage options for firearms. From cable locks to mechanical, keypad, fob, and biometric safes, there is yet a new idea to this topic. Each option falls in between a device that completely secures a firearm to one that allows it to be readily accessible. The correct balance between the two extremes is user-dependent or circumstantial. Gun owners interested in purchasing a safety device are often motivated by concerns for unattended storage, who has access, and how quickly it may be needed during a critical event.
Locking down the firearm means simply inserting the magazine and inserting the key. Note the “Fire” and “Safe” positions. (Photo by Alfredo Rico) GOSAFE offers its Mobile Safe and Mobile Mag, which are not intended to replace a gun safe. These products can’t prevent a gun from being stolen. Instead, they provide a simple storage option to safeguard certain pistol models from being accessed and fired by an unauthorized person. Rather than dependency on so-called “smart gun” technology, Mobile Safe and Mobile Mag are only operated by an intuitive, individually cut cam-lock key.
The Mobile Mag (above, left) combines the locking mechanism of the Mobile Safe (above, right) with a functional 10-round capacity magazine. (Photo by Alfredo Rico) Mobile Safe or times when the need to safeguard a pistol outweighs the need to have the handgun readily accessible, the Mobile Safe is a solution. After removing the magazine from the pistol, lock the slide to the rear and confirm an empty chamber. Then, send the slide forward and insert Mobile Safe into the magazine well. Align the key’s fin with the red dot marked “FIRE” and press the key until it snaps into place. Turn 90-degrees clockwise until the fin is aligned with the white dot marked “SAFE”. When the key is turned to the SAFE position, GOSAFE’s stainless-steel “flag-on-a-shaft” mechanism swings out to lock the trigger bar and prevent the pistol from firing. The trigger can’t be pulled, the slide can’t be racked, and the Mobile Safe can’t be ejected from the pistol. A tactile indicator on the back of the Mobile Safe protrudes when activated, surrounded by a white ring to indicate both visually and physically that the device is locked. Hence, the pistol is inoperable.
A steel extension works as a trigger-bar block. The locking lug also prevents the unit from being removed when locked. (Photo by Alfredo Rico) To make the pistol functional, insert the key with the fin aligned with the white SAFE dot and turn 90-degrees counterclockwise until it aligns with the red FIRE dot. Note that the tactile indicator is flush with the back of the Mobile Safe. Press the magazine release and remove Mobile Safe from the pistol. Then, you can load the pistol with a standard magazine. As with traditional magazines, Mobile Safes and Mobile Mags designed for the Glock 17 will work in a Glock 19, but not the other way around due to the length of the G17 magazine well.

Mobile Mag he Mobile Mag provides the same security and functionality as the Mobile Safe, but it gives the user the option of having 10 rounds available to fire when unlocked. Therefore, you can leave your pistol loaded and accessible, but it is still protected from being fired by someone who doesn’t have access.
A tactile indicator on the back of the basepad shows when the gun is secure or ready to fire. (Photo by Alfredo Rico) To fire a pistol that’s been rendered safe by the Mobile Mag, insert the key with the fin facing the white SAFE dot and turn 90 degrees counterclockwise to FIRE. The key’s fin is now aligned with the magazine and the tactile indicator is flush with the back of the Mobile Mag. Pull the key from the Mobile Mag and store it in a safe place. The pistol is ready to fire.
