First Look: Krebs Custom KV-13

The Krebs Custom KV-13 is pioneering an entirely new look and feel for AK-style rifles.

The VEPR-based KV-13 combines the features we've come to expect on the AK platform with several modern enhancements.

For example, Krebs has replaced the standard handguard with a revolutionary new Key-Mod rail system, allowing attachment of accessories at nearly any desired location on the forend. It also includes Magpul furniture; most notably a collapsible 6-position CTR stock that also folds onto the left side of the receiver for portability and maneuverability.

The KV-13's sighting system is also different than that of traditional AKs. Its dual-aperture rear peep sight is similar to AR-15 iron sights, has windage adjustments and is mounted at the rear of the receiver for a longer sight radius. Of course, additional optics can be added to the Picatinny rail atop the Key-Mod forend, or to the built-in mounting platform on the left side of the receiver.

Pictured here with a 16-inch 7.62x39mm barrel with a four-prong flash suppressor, the rifle weighs about 8-pounds unloaded.

The KV-13 is being produced now and comes to market for $1,850, though the rifles are reportedly in high demand with a significant backorder.

Check out these photos for a closer look at the KV-13, and stay tuned for a full review in an upcoming issue of Guns & Ammo Complete Book of the AK47.
