Aimpoint ACRO P-1 Red Dot – 2019 Optic of the Year

Aimpoint has brought innovation back to the handgun sight category by developing the industry's first closed-emitter miniature red dot sight, the ACRO P-1.

Current demand far exceeds supply, but Aimpoint’s new ACRO is becoming more readily available.

Aimpoint has brought innovation back to the handgun sight category by developing the industry’s first closed-emitter miniature red dot sight. The 31/2-MOA ACRO is Aimpoint’s first red dot sight intentionally developed for use on handguns.

Unwilling to compromise quality just to be the first, the ACRO had to prove reliable knowing that many of its customers wear a uniform. The ACRO was tested for durability on a Glock 22 slide while 20,000 rounds of .40 S&W were fired through it. The ACRO exceeded that requirement.

Though designed for pistols, G&A’s staff has found that the nonmagnified ACRO can also serve the role of a backup sight when mounted in tandem to a magnified optic via a rail adapter plate. Three different height quick-detach mounts are also available to allow it to serve the role of a primary sight on a carbine.

The ACRO features a rugged aluminum housing that encloses its electronics like a vault. The ACRO’s red dot emitter sights are exposed to the environment. The profile is only slightly larger than open emitter sights, and the flush buttons cannot be unintentionally pressed while holstered, a known issue with other mini red dots.

Adjusting the dot’s intensity is easy and intuitive, and the footprint mirrors that of other popular mini red dots. A growing number of adapter plates allow shooters to mount the ACRO to handgun slides cut for an optical sight.

At $660, the ACRO is among the high-quality sights near the upper end of this category’s price point. For that, the ACRO earned its place as a first-class solution from the same company that invented the red dot reflector in 1975.
