Colorado's Semiauto Ban
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) signed legislation that will ban the manufacture and severely restrict the possession of many semiautomatic firearms, including most semiautomatic rifles and pistols that feature a detachable magazine. The law goes into full effect in August 2026. Field Editor Keith Wood went on assignment to the 2025 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Atlanta, Georgia, where he interviewed Dr. David Kopel, attorney and gun rights advocate, and Jordan Egli and Phillip Harding, employees of Burris Optics and Steiner, which are based in Colorado. Burris has been in Colorado for more than 50 years and will be subject to the state’s changing landscape and forthcoming restrictions.
