First Look: SureFire SOCOM300 SPS Suppressor

First Look: SureFire SOCOM300 SPS Suppressor

SureFire_SOCOM300_SPS_Suppressor_FSureFire has introduced a new addition to its line of SOCOM Fast-Attach sound suppressors: the SOCOM300 SPS.

The new SureFire SOCOM300 SPS is a .30-caliber suppressor that features highly specialized baffles designed to create a longer dwell time within the suppressor, making it one of the quietest suppressors ever devised for .300 AAC Blackout (both subsonic and supersonic), .308 Win. and .300 Win. Mag. It is also effective when paired with the 5.56 NATO cartridge.

The SOCOM300 SPS suppressor is constructed of Inconel, a high-temperature alloy; and stainless steel, resulting in a very lightweight device that adds only 6 inches to the overall length of the firearm on which it's mounted. For added durability, the SOCOM300 SPS has been fabricated using computer-controlled welding and incorporates a corrosion-resistant coating of Ionbond DLC and a Cerakote ceramic finish.

Designed to attach quickly and easily, the SureFire SOCOM300 SPS suppressor features a precision indexing system for solid mounting to a compatible SureFire SOCOM series adapter, which acts as a muzzle brake or flash hider when the firearm is unsuppressed. The patented fast-attach system requires no tools and utilizes an index tab located in a low-carbon buildup area, allowing for easy removal even after extended firing.

Like previous SureFire SOCOM series suppressors, the SOCOM300 SPS provides minimal and consistent point-of-impact shift when compared to the unsuppressed firearm, no matter how many times the suppressor is attached and detached. As with all SOCOM suppressors, the SureFire SOCOM300 SPS is sturdy enough for full-time use and is built to outlive the firearm's barrel to which it is attached.

The new SureFire SOCOM300 SPS is available in two different color schemes — Black and Dark Earth — for a suggested retail price of $1,075. It can be purchased in states that allow civilian suppressor ownership through authorized SureFire dealers.

Pocket-Pistol Carry Tips and Tricks

Pocket-Pistol Carry Tips and Tricks

Pocket carry, as a method of concealed carry for a defensive firearm, can be a practical option when done right. This is especially true during the colder months when heavy outer garments can obstruct access to a traditional waistline holster. Former U.S. Navy SEAL Jeff Gonzales, president of Trident Concepts, joins G&A contributor Kimberly Heath-Chudwin to discuss guns, training and gear, including Blackhawk's TecGrip holster that can make pocket carry more successful.

Shooting 600 Yards with .300 Blackout

The .300 Blackout cartridge was developed to provide greater effectiveness than a 9mm at short and medium ranges when fired from a short-barreled suppressed firearm. Just because the cartridge wasn't designed to go long doesn't mean Rifles & Optics Editor Tom Beckstrand won't take it there, using a large-format pistol, no less. Armed with SIG Sauer's 9-inch-barreled MCX Virtus Pistol loaded with Black Hills' 125-grain TMK ammunition, Beckstrand attempts to ring steel at 600 yards with help from Hornady's 4DOF ballistic calculator in this segment of “Long Range Tech.”

All About .300 Blackout

The .300 Blackout is here to stay, and we take some time to look at new technology surrounding this cartridge. Next, we pit subsonic rivals against each other before stretching the legs of this CQB round out to 600 yards from a short 9-inch barrel.

Guns & Ammo TV: Wheelgun vs. Pistol

In this segment of “Pros vs. Joes,” we put competitive shooter and author James Tarr against Guns & Ammo TV cameraman Nathan Wilt. With handguns, they see who can knock down plates the fastest on two Revolution Targets Heavy Duty Plate Racks. Here's the catch: Tarr has to use a Colt King Cobra in .357 Mag. while Wilt shoots a Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0 in 9mm.
