First Look: S&W M&P Pro Series C.O.R.E. Ported Pistols

Creating a buzz at the 2015 SHOT Show were the new Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series C.O.R.E. Ported Pistols.

S&W's new pistols feature ported barrels with slide cuts to vent gas upward, keeping competitors on target with reduced muzzle flip. M&P ported pistols are initially available in four configurations: 9mm and .40 S&W, each with 5-inch or 4.25-inch barrels. The 9mm models have a capacity of 17+1 rounds, while the .40 S&W models hold 15+1 rounds.

All varieties of the ported C.O.R.E. pistols come from the Smith & Wesson Performance Center with adjustable triggers and suppressor-height sights for co-witnessing with optics. The optics-mounting platform accommodates popular mini red dot sights such as the Trijicon RMR and Leopold DeltaPoint

All S&W M&P Pro Series C.O.R.E. Ported Pistols are available now for an MSRP of $812.

A guide on how to pair .223 and 5.56 NATO rifle barrel twist rates with bullet weights. Conventional wisdom says slower twist rates wouldn't properly-stabilize a heavy bullet. On the other hand, faster rates could over-stabilize lighter bullets. This is correct in theory, however, modern ballisticians have all but debunked the over-stabilization theory.
