Rifles and Optics Editor Tom Beckstrand shows off the Savage 110 Elite Precision and the features that make this bolt-action rifle unique.

Savage Arms 110 Elite Precision Rifle Review

The new Model 110 Elite Precision has every upgrade offered from the Savage Arms factory, all in an effort to create a rifle that suits everyone from a serious competitive shooter to the casual rifleman. Key upgrades include a blueprinted action with a stainless-steel match barrel that sits in a Modular Driven Technologies (MDT) Adjustable Core Competition (ACC) chassis.

Savage squared the receiver face and cleaned up the receiver threads to ensure they’re concentric with the barrel’s bore. This combination goes a long way in eliminating the occasional flyer that can ruin a good group or cause a miss in a match.

Dropping this barreled action into the MDT ACC was also a wise decision because it allows for easy fitting of the rifle to its shooter. This reduces shooter fatigue and increases a shooter’s comfort, especially when the rifle recoils.

The chassis adjusts for length of pull, but also allows for changing the height of the buttpad. When shooting in the prone, raising the buttpad 2 inches increases surface area contact between the rifle and shooter significantly. This greatly reduced felt recoil during Guns & Ammo’s evaluation and made our long-range session more comfortable.

The long forend features a Swiss ARCA rail that’s machined along its length. The ARCA rail is popular with the most serious precision shooters and allows for rapid repositioning of the bipod or tripod. When moving from one shooting position to another, this feature saves considerable time.

Finally, the chassis accepts the highly desirable AICS-pattern magazines. These magazines are ubiquitous, come in five- and 10-round capacities, and have both polymer and metal models available. AICS-pattern mags are the most reliable and inexpensive way to feed any bolt-action rifle.
