In recent weeks, Springfield Armory has added two new configurations to the 1911 DS Prodigy line of single-action, semiautomatic pistols.
1911 DS Prodigy Comp Springfield Armory is proud to announce the launch of the 1911 DS Prodigy Comp AOS 9mm in 5-inch and 4.25-inch variants. Both of these pistols are integrally compensated to reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise, and combine the most beloved characteristics of the 1911 with modern capacity for unrivaled performance.

By redirecting gas upwards, it reduces muzzle rise and enhances control, allowing for faster and more accurate follow-up shots. Additionally, the pistols feature a tritium front sight positioned behind the compensator to ensure an uninterrupted sight picture.
The Prodigy Comp takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set. Configured around a double-stack magazine, the polymer grip module of the 1911 DS pistol mounts to a forged steel frame, offering capacities of 17+1 and 20+1.

To allow the ease of use of today’s most popular red dot optics, the Prodigy Comp features slides cut for AOS (Agency Optic System) plates. Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, these billet steel plates deliver proper optic height for intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition, and feature an integral rear sight. The Prodigy Comp ships with a HEX Dragonfly compatible plate as well as a cover plate, while additional optic-specific plates are available for purchase. You can find a full compatibility chart here.

Each pistol comes with two magazines — one 17-round flush fit and one 20-round extended, with optional 26-rounders available for purchase. Both the 5” and the 4.25” models have an MSRP of $1,599. In addition, restricted locale 10-round variants of both models are available.

1911 DS Prodigy in Coyote Brown Springfield Armory is proud to announce the launch of the Prodigy AOS 9mm pistol in a Cerakote Coyote Brown finish. This new Prodigy variant is available in both 5-inch and 4.25-inch variants, in both standard-capacity and 10-round versions.

The Cerakote Coyote Brown coating not only enhances the durability and performance of the firearm, but also offers significant benefits in terms of longevity and ease of care.
Featuring an expertly engineered double-stack magazine, the pistol is optics-ready with raised fiber-optic front/u-notch rear sights. It also features an ambidextrous safety and Picatinny rail. Mounted to the pistol’s forged steel receiver is a polymer grip module that offers capacities of 17+1 in a flush-fit magazine and 20+1 in an extended magazine, both included with the Prodigy. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.
The polymer grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, made popular on the Hellcat and Echelon families of 9mm pistols. Matching up with this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver feature the rugged Coyote Brown Cerakote finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel.

Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.
The pistol ships with a cover plate with rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate designed for the HEX Dragonfly along with a variety of today’s most popular red dots. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of today’s most popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store. You can see a full fitment/optics compatibility chart for the AOS plate system here.
“The Prodigy 9mm took everything that shooters love about the 1911 platform and enhanced it with a double-stack magazine and a host of modern performance features,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “With the new Cerakote Coyote Brown versions, the Prodigy line is now offering fans another must-have addition for their collections.”
All four variants of the new 1911 DS Prodigy in Coyote Brown are being offered for an MSRP of $1,549. For more information on these new Prodigy 9mm pistols, visit https://spr-ar.com/r/6071 .
