First Look: Ruger RXM 9mm

Ruger have announced the RXM, a striker-fired 9mm handgun developed in collaboration with Magpul, designed for self-defense and everyday carry (EDC). The RXM features a removable stainless steel Fire Control Insert (FCI) set inside an interchangeable Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip (EHG) that while launching in standard grey, will be expanded to more colors and sizes in the future.

“The RXM is the result of a tremendous collaboration between two of the most respected brands in the industry." Said Chris Killoy, President and CEO of Ruger Firearms. "Loaded with upgraded features, superior ergonomics, and at a price that leaves room for further customization, this American-made handgun is destined to become the best in its class.”

¾-scale TSP texture covers the grip of Magpul’s EHG, along with textured indexing pads for finger/thumb placement. Also found on the EHG is a flared magwell for faster reloads, and a trigger guard undercut that in conjunction with a beavertail, provides more space for a firm firing grip.

The slide is machined for direct optic mounting of RMR, Delta Point Pro, and RMSc pattern sights. The analog sights on the RXM are able to co-witness with most compatible sights, and feature a tritium insert at the front.

Major components are also designed to operate in Gen 3-type handguns, making them compatible with a large number of off-the-shelf holsters and accessories. Two Magpul PMAG GL9 15-round magazines are included with the gun, as well as a plastic carry case. For restricted-capacity states, two 10-round PMAG GL9 magazines are provided instead.

Ruger have acknowledged that the striker-fired 9mm market is quite competitive, but have expressed confidence that the feature list of the RXM will carve out a place of its own.
