AR-15s chambered in 9mm are some of the coolest guns to shoot. The ammo is affordable, the recoil is light and they’re practical for both home defense and competition. I recently put together an 8.5-inch Foxtrot Mike Products forward-charging upper with a Tennessee Arms Company polymer lower. With CMMG’s new RipBrace, this AR pistol is great for vehicle and home defense.

What’s a compact 9mm AR pistol need? A compact red-dot sight, especially one like the Bushnell TRS-26 red dot sight. It’s only 2.7 inches long and weighs a mere 6 ounces. Definite appeal for the lightweight zealots. Despite its size, it boasts a 50,000-hour battery life.

I took the TRS-26 to the range and was impressed with how quick my target acquisition was. The compactness of both the gun and sight made it quick and easy to switch targets, even at longer distances. When shooting with both eyes open, I could practically see the entire range, which would make planning the order of targets to shoot for competition easier.

Looking through the sight, the 3-MOA dot was crisp with a minimal “starburst” effect, and the 12 brightness settings provide an optimal picture in both bright and low light. The TRS-26 is nitrogen-purged to prevent fogging in the interior of the optic, and it is completely waterproof, too.

The TRS-26 isn’t limited to just tactical or competition use; it would prove its worth when hunting as well. On a shotgun, the optic will provide a clear advantage when hunting deer or turkey, especially for older hunters who don’t have the vision for iron sights anymore. On an AR-15, hog hunters will appreciate the quick transitions the TRS-26 affords. The sight also features shockproof construction for the inevitable bumps and drops that happen in the field.

With a price of just $160, the Bushnell TRS-26 red dot sight is one of the most affordable ways to attach a red dot to your firearm while giving you a lot of bang for your buck.
