Winchester 150th Anniversary The Winchester ammo brand is celebrating 150 years of commitment to the shooting sports in 2016. To celebrate this milestone, the company is offering a collectible set of ammunition products that features classic Winchester artwork and embossed packaging. These collectible lines will be featured in 150-gr. .270 Win., 150-gr. 30-30 Win. and 200-gr. 44-40 Win, as well as a 12-gauge shotshell option loaded with No. 2 steel shot. M-22 Subsonic .22 Long Rifle The new M-22 Subsonic round is optimized for use in semi-auto firearms chambered in .22 LR. The company’s design will function in both semi-auto rifles and pistols and will remain subsonic in both. The M-22 round features a 45-gr. black-plated lead round nose bullet that offers the same ballistic energy as 36-gr. full-velocity .22 round. The round also uses non-corrosive priming and clean-burning powder to reduce muzzle flash. In testing, the M-22 Subsonic measured 116 decibels in a suppressed rimfire rifle. Unsuppressed, the round measured at 129 decibels. For comparison, a full-velocity .22 rimfire round fired from the same rifle measured 138 decibels. USA Forged In a nod to recreational and competitive pistol shooters, Winchester introduced the USA Forged steel case 9mm round, which are manufactured in Winchester’s Oxford, Miss. facility. USA Forged is the first example of a steel-cased pistol round that is wholly made in the United States. The round, currently offered only in 9mm, consists of a 115-gr. full metal jacket bullet. Each round is loaded to exacting Winchester standards and are said to feature great on-the-range performance with an average muzzle velocity of 1,190 fps. The rounds are loaded with non-corrosive boxer primers and use clean-burning powder to minimize fouling in high-volume range sessions. The jacketed bullets are safe for use in ported, vented or suppressed pistols and range clean-up is a snap when shooters use a magnet on steel cases. Each steel shell case also includes a proprietary coating to improve reliability and corrosion resistance. 17 Winchester Super Magnum Power Core The 17 WSM rimfire cartridge has been growing in popularity with hunters and shooters. To feed this growing market, Winchester has added a specially designed varmint hunting round to its product line-up. The 17 WSM Power Core round features a 20-gr. solid copper hollow-point bullet that features a muzzle velocity of 2,875 fps. Winchester expects that hunters will see improved accuracy and massive on-target energy transference at ranges well past 200 yards with this new round. Super X Upland Small Bore 28-Gauge Shotshell For 2016, Winchester has added 28-gauge shotshells to its Super X shotshell line-up. The round is chambered in a 2 3/4-inch shell with 3/4-ounch shot in No. 5 and No. 6 options. Muzzle velocity is recorded at 1,295 fps for both choices.
