Sig Sauer Introduces P229 Carry

Sig Sauer Introduces P229 Carry

The new carry variant of the P229 is pictured above. Notice the shortened frame that does not include an accessory rail. The frame is redesigned to accommodate the shortened slide and barrel.

The latest from SIG SAUER is the P229 Carry chambered in .40 and .357 SIG. These handguns maintain the standard grip length and magazine capacity as the standard P229 used by the FBI and Secret Service but with a shortened slide and 3.5-inch barrel to facilitate carrying concealed.

"As we've worked with armed professionals over the years, we kept hearing comments about shorter slides and barrels but with full-size magazines and grips," said John Brasseur, director of product management for SIG SAUER, Inc. "This combination offers advantages in certain low visibility applications. One benefit of our New Hampshire-based facility is that we can adapt new designs very efficiently to meet the needs of our users in the field."

For comparison, the new Legion Series P229 still maintains the traditional length of the standard P229, including an accessory rail and a lengthened frame that accommodates a longer slide and barrel.

Designed to be comfortable for inside-the-waistband carry, the P229 Carry uses standard length, 12+1 round full-capacity P229 magazines, so firepower isn't reduced over the standard P229. The P229 Carry is available in Nitron and SAS models and both feature non-railed alloy frames and durable Nitron finished slides. SIGLITE Night Sights come standard as do grips made of black G-10.

The Nitron model features the traditional DA/SA (10 pound/4.4 pound) trigger and the full set of internal safeties that civilian, military and law enforcement SIG SAUER users have come to know over the decades. The SAS model features the Short Reset Trigger system (SRT), and all sharp corners and hard edges have been rounded with what SIG calls the Anti-Snag treatment. The result is a gun that's far less likely to snag on clothing during a crucial draw from concealment.

Both the Nitron and SAS P229 Carry models are shipping now in .40 and .357 SIG. To offer as much versatility as possible, a caliber X-Change kit will also be available to convert either variant to 9mm. The suggested retail price for the Nitron is $1,142, and the SAS is $1,176.
