Pistol-Packin' Breastplate

pistol-covered breastplateOne of the all-time goofy gun items, this multi-shot breastplate was discovered in Bordeaux, France, in 1917. It is of unknown provenance, and consists of 19 pistols that fold up out of the way for "normal" wear, but which can be dropped down and fired four or five at a time by manipulating a combination of buttons and levers.

The hammers are cocked with a hook-and-chain arrangement. To make the setup even better, the breastplate came with a pair of stirrups each fitted with a brace of pistols which could also be brought to bear upon an adversary by pulling special firing straps. The contraption is probably unique--for reasons that should be obvious to even the most unsophisticated firearms aficionado.
