First Look: FNH USA Military Collector Series

FNH USA announced the launch of the FN Military Collector Series, a product line that will feature commercial variants of FN's most iconic and historic military designs.

The initial products to be featured in the series will be the FN 15 Military Collector M4 and M16 as well as the semi-automatic FN M249S, a replica of the fully-automatic M249 SAW or Squad Automatic Weapon in service with the U.S. military since the 1980s.

"This new line of products allows us to showcase FN's battle-proven legacy of producing firearms for militaries world-wide and passing this technology on to our commercial customers," said Mark Cherpes, president and CEO for FN America. "We're excited to bring these semi-automatic versions of the world's most iconic products to America's gun owners."

FN M249S

The M249s, chambered in 5.56 NATO, features a 20.5-inch cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined alloy-steel barrel with a twist rate of 1:7. Unlike the fully automatic military version, the M249S operates from a closed-bolt position in semi-auto only instead of the open-bolt configuration currently in service with the U.S. military.

The M249S weighs 17 pounds empty and is 40.75 inches long and 9.5 inches high. Trigger pull is adjustable from 4-6.5 pounds. The gun operates with a belt or a standard AR magazine and comes with links and one AR magazine. The suggested retail price is $7,999.
