Kwikset, a leader in the residential security industry, introduces SmartScan, a residential biometric keyless-entry system. SmartScan eliminates the need for a key or key code, utilizing only a fingerprint scan. It is a biometrically accessible deadbolt that can be applied to external and internal doors in residential applications.
Biometrics is a method of authenticating the identity of a person based on physiological characteristics. The most well-known method is fingerprint identification. The SmartScan battery-powered deadbolt is activated simply by swiping a valid fingerprint across its subdermal sensor.
Using RF electronic imaging, SmartScan reads live fingerprint patterns located beneath the subdermal outer surface layer of the skin, making it unaffected by dry, dirty or worn fingertips. Programmable with 50+ user fingerprints, SmartScan also has a special timed lock-out feature. Each system includes a backup key, as the product also functions as a standard deadbolt in case the batteries were not replaced.
