First Look: Colt CRP-18 Pro Competition Rifle

by Dusty Gibson   |  March 7th, 2014 4

With the surge in popularity of practical shooting competitions such as IPSC and 3-Gun Nation, firearm manufacturers are getting into the game with specialized rifles intended for winning.

The Colt CRP-18 Pro Competition rifle steps into the ring packed with features desired by run-and-gun match shooters. Nearly every component on the rifle has been carefully designed with competition shooters in mind.

Those components include an 18-inch fluted 416 stainless steel match grade barrel with 1-in-8-inch twist and a rifle length, tool-less adjustable gas system. The upper also includes a three-port muzzle brake and a 15-inch free floating modular handguard.

The lower receiver group features a Geissele SSA-E trigger which breaks around 3.5-pounds. Magpul furniture includes a CTR stock, MOE grip and enhanced trigger guard.

Custom tuned at the factory for optimal performance, the CRP-18 comes with a signed and serial numbered test target, with guaranteed groups of 1 MOA or less at 100 yards. A 30-round Magpul PMAG, Safariland cleaning kit and 1 year warranty are also included with the rifle.

The Colt CRP-18 Pro Competition Rifle is available now for $2,019.

The groups sucks. Can beat it with every other AR I own. Over $2000? Most of mine are under 1500.

For $2019 a .959 group isn’t what I’d consider competitive. I’ve built ARs for under $500 that’ll top that with an Average Shooter. C’mon Colt you can do better and had better if you’re going to sell these particular Rifles for that price.
