First Look: New Hornady Ammo for 2014

by G&A Online Editors   |  December 9th, 2013 6

Hornady has recently announced a handful of new ammunition offerings for 2014.

A completely new line of ammunition, known as Custom Lite, delivers the performance folks have come to expect from Hornady, but with reduced recoil and muzzle blast. The Custom Lite line of ammo includes several rifle calibers, as well as 12 and 20 gauge shotgun slugs.

Hornady’s American Whitetail line of hunting ammo has expanded to include 12 gauge, 325-grain shotgun slugs.

Their Critical Duty line now includes .357 Sig with a 135-grain FlexLock bullet.

Hornady has also added a 20 gauge load to their Heavy Magnum Turkey line.

Check out the photos and video below, and look for these new offerings to be available in the first quarter of 2014.

Great product line. However, Hornady should first concentrate on getting current product to suppliers and retailers in sufficient volume. As an FFL dealer, I hear gripes everyday about this regarding all ammunition producers. Also, the large disparity in prices annoys buyers. That is a broad statement. It is pointed at manufacturers who have prices fluctuate dramatically on supply and demand. I get it, but how about some courtesy for the consumer who keeps you and I all in business. Thanks

I concur Frank. How about getting the current line of ammunition along with the suspended production ammo out on the shelves before bringing out new products, especially 22LR rimfire.

Last I heard Hornady was building what sold the best and other rounds were labeled ‘seasonal’.

All ammo companies do that. It was the reason ,380 ammo was scarce a few years ago.

New products are fine. But, the problem still exists NO AMMO ON THE SHELVES.. Is the Government still trying to stop private ownership of firearms? If so, tell the jerks in Washington to “Go Visit Satan” or in simple English “GO TO H**L”! Start supplying our dealers shelves.

The game of walking a fine line in producing ammunition, keeping it in stock and not overstocked is not quite as easy as most think. From a financial standpoint, the dealers are responsible for price gouging (if you disagree, take a second look) and from a “empty shelves” standpoint you need to keep in mind the influx of 22LR shooters following increasing sells of 22LR AR’s and other firearms chambered for the 22LR caliber (not to mention worrisome hoarders). As a company, Hornady needs to keep producing “new” products to keep competitive. Before you condemn me, keep in mind that I also am out or low on ammo. Please keep an open mind and not place the blame, as I’m SURE many G&A readers are part of the problem, yet demand the supplier provide a solution.
