First Look: SIG Sauer 556xi Rifle

by G&A Online Editors   |  January 19th, 2014 5

New for 2014, the SIG Sauer 556xi rifle was designed to serve the growing demand for completely modular weapon platforms.

SIG Sauer’s new rifle runs on a 3-position adjustable piston-driven system, allowing operators to tune the action for optimal function with suppressors, or during extended shooting sessions.

The 556xi is friendly to left- and right-handed shooters, with ambidextrous controls and a reciprocating side-charging handle that attaches to either side of the rifle in seconds.

SIG’s new rifle platform can also adapt to fit many shooting applications. Quickly convert between 5.56x45mm, 300 Blackout and 7.62x39mm by swapping out a few parts on the same serialized receiver.

Available in the first quarter of 2014, the SIG Sauer 556xi rifle comes to market at $1500 to $1,600.

Ahh, lots of people said that about the Glock. It was my favorite pistol. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like it. I want one. Seems very practical to me. Very versatile and looking at the design I would bet about as reliable as an AK.

I really like the look of this rifle, very Swiss in origin (especially with that buttstock on the bottom paired with that cheek comb). It’s pretty cool that the Beretta ARX-100 and this came out at the same time; +2 for the recreational shooting community, in my book.

I also find it historically interesting that you can now run a Magpul PMAG in all three calibers for this rifle (5.56x45mm, .300 BLK, 7.62x39mm)

Hmm, do I want this, a Tavor, or an ARAK 21…decisions, decisions.
