Thompson/Center Arms Issues Recall for Icon, Venture and Dimension Rifles

by G&A Online Editors   |  June 17th, 2013 12

TC-Dimension_001Thompson/Center Arms has issued a major recall for all its Icon, Venture and Dimension rifles.

Last week, T/C Arms released a public safety notice saying the company identified a problem in which the safety lever in some rifles can bind, preventing the safety from fully engaging. When this happens, moving the bolt back could move the safety into the fire position.

T/C Arms stressed the rifle will not fire unless the trigger is pulled, but is recalling all rifles manufactured before June 13, 2013, as a precaution. The company urged all owners to stop using the rifles immediately and send them back to be inspected or repaired at T/C Arms’ expense.

For more information on how to return your rifle, contact Thompson/Center customer service, which will send a pre-paid shipping label. Once the rifle is inspected, it will be returned with a small marking on the safety along with a red star on the package’s label. Any owners outside the U.S. should check this list of authorized warranty centers.

This is getting annoying! I’ve already sent it in once to have the sear checked on their first recall! Sure they send you a shipping label, but you have to take the scope off, find your own box, package it up, take it to Fedex… Then when you get it back you have to sight it in again. This is the last Thompson firearm I will ever buy. Also the last S&W firearm I’ll ever buy. They’ve convinced me!

I have had nothing but bad luck with my 7mm/08 Dimension Rifle. First the covering on the stock was peeling. I sent it back it took two months to get it back and when I finally got it they had not sent the screws back with the new stock that took me another five weeks to get then come to find out they hadn’t sent the rubber washers with the screws and with the help of someone at S&W I was able to get those in a timely manner. But today I got the rifle out because I’m going bear hunting the 26 of Aug 2013 went to put the clip in the rifle and found out that they didn’t send me the part that holds the clip in the rifle ( great) So I got on line to get the phone number of TC and GUESS WHAT there recalling the rifle back I’m worried about sending it back I might never get it back or I won’t get it back for this hunting season.Or won’t get all the parts back when I send them the rifle. I’m not a happy hunter.

I am disappointed in S&W …. I purchased my 270 Dimension not quite a year ago and only had it out of the case 3 times and the covering started to peel off in several places,…. Now a recall on the safety which could take several months almost close to a year to repair. that being said I called TC and was given a long distance number to call in BC then was told they were back logged because they are not sure about shipping procedures for having these rifles on recall repaired.. :/ I invested almost 1000 bucks on a rifle I thought was going to be a good investment but now having a bad taste in my mouth…. I hate to sound negative but this was not just a pair of sneakers purchased at Wal-Mart…

I purchased a TC VENTURE in June of 2012 and was thrilled to have a new rifle. I hunted with it last year with success. Three weeks ago I took the rifle out during a Doe only season. As the day light faded and I gathered the gear from my stand. I attempted to UNLOAD my 270 WSM and the bolt would not release. As I struggled with the rifle to unload it, the gun fired inside the stand with me. As a result I have lost partial hearing in both ears. I still like my rifle, however I’m reluctant to use my BOX stand or an enclosed space to unload. TC, if there is a recall and you have known about it since June 2013, why have I not been notified?

Because they don’t know who their guns have been sold to. It is still America, which means we don’t allow Federal Registration lists. That said you should check for your models periodically to see if they’ve had a recall.

Don’t let anyone kid you my friend.TC doesn’t know who their rifles are sold to but, ATF has records. Although they might not know exactly what weapon you purchased, they record that you purchased a pistol or long gun. When an application to purchase is called in, that call is recorded and gun stores have to keep track of every gun they sell to whom.

I have the 30 06 tc venture. One of the best rifles I have owned for the price and the accuracy. I had my rifle go off in my lap as I pulled it toward me. I did have the safety on but it must have moved when I pulled it back and my finger hit the trigger and it went off. I was looking on their Web site and noticed a recall was issued. I called and they immediately sent me at my email the mailing slip. I had my rifle back in less than 2 weeks. Now the safety works perfectly and of course I am paranoid about checking it constantly however with out any further incidents. Would buy another.

I have a TC Icon and there is a safety issue recall on it. Twice I’ve contacted TC to get shipping instructions and label and have yet to receive a label. I called them again and asked that they mail me a label since they can’t seem to email it to me. This time is been over two weeks. I’ve been trying to just get a label about a year now. If they can’t simply send me a label, how am I to trust that they won’t lose my rifle? Perhaps I need to contact the attorney general?

    • BHB

I’m not returning my ICON; I’ll gamble with what I have; don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Like you, I think it would be a bigger gamble as to whether I get my rifle back or what condition it will be in upon return.

I’m getting quite upset with Thompson Center. Almost a year now, I’ve been trying to get a shipping label to return my TC Icon for the safety recall. Four times I’ve called, four times they were going to send me a shipping label, and they haven’t yet.
TC keeps no records of customer contacts. If they are so en efficient, I’m afraid that they’ll lose my rifle, or they’ll take a year or more before I get it back. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
Maybe a group should file a law suit and or, contact our attorney general.
