6 Creative Ways Mitt Romney Is Courting Shooters

by Kyle Wintersteen   |  September 6th, 2012 135

Mitt Romney’s relationship with gun owners over the years has been tenuous at best. While campaigning for the U.S. Senate in 1994, he expressed support for five-day waiting periods and other gun control measures. And in 2004, as governor of Massachusetts, he signed an “assault weapons” ban. However, Romney says his views on firearms have changed and, starting with his 2007 presidential campaign, he’s sought rebirth as a pro-gun candidate.

Easier said than done. Gun owners are an uncompromising, unforgiving bloc of voters and they tend to have long memories. Indeed, members of Romney’s own party, especially Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, actively attacked his gun control past while they campaigned for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

Yet Romney appears to understand he needs the support of gun owners if he’s to defeat President Obama in November. How is he courting your vote given his less than stellar record on gun rights? To say the least, he’s gotten creative. Here are six ways he’s seeking your vote.

  • Jeff M.

The short version: Romney isn't Prp-Gun. But, by not talking about it, he won't scare away people that are voting against Obama.
But by all means don't look at his record of assault weapon bans and a history of being anti-gun. Don't look behind the curtain.

    • Carl W.

I'm with you. I'd rather just not vote at all, if the option is Mitt.

      • Dan1911

NOT VOTING IS A VOTE for OBAMA !!!!

      • MRObama2012

If the option is Romney then come get my guns I will vote for Obama

        • opar5

How do you plan on dealing with the 30,000 Muslim "refugees" Obama is importing monthly, or the three-dozen armed, Muslim para-military training compounds around the USA with armed patrols 24/7 we saw on the partially aired documentry on FOXNEWS Hannity program? Are you going to convert to Islam, submit and become a willing slave paying jizya (tax of humiliation) or accept death as Koran 9:29 requires? Look it up.

          • American Jack

do you know how to get this information? Please let me know. I would love to hear about you.

      • https://www.facebook.com/robert.tigner.1 Robert Tigner

Not voting is a vote for Obama. He is much more anti-liberty than Mitt. I wish people would get that since the election will be tighter than last time

    • herbdoc

Paul Ryan IS pro gun. Odumbo IS anti gun and will destroy the USA. see the movie 2016. Vote for Romney Ryan or you won't have any guns or liberty.

      • MRObama2012

Anyone claiming to be Pro-Gun and Pro-Obama has got to be :
      1. AN IDIOT

  • El Nastro

I'm a shooter, and will NOT be voting for Romney. Or any Republican. Their policies and platform have no relevance or utility for me, or for most people for that matter. I'm not rich, don't give $h!t if gay people get married, trickle-down economics is idiotic, and I have no interest in Christianity or its dogma.

Probably won't vote for Obama either because he's too conservative, still prosecuting the insane War On Drugs and not doing anything about the Private Prison Industry, BUT the fact is Obama hasn't done anything to "Take our guns away!"

Vote 3rd Party if ya got any guts!

    • Robert Augeri

I HOPE YOU LOSE ALL OF YOUR GUNS AND FREEDOMS VETS HAVE FOUGHT FOR. YOU MUST BE SMOKING THE WACKIE WEED. GOD HELP PEOPLE LIKE YOU OUR SOLIDERS FOUGHT TO PRESERVE OUR WAY OF LIFE.

      • Patrick Seamus

Our soldiers fought for a meager paycheck. The last time soldiers fought to defend our freedoms was during the War of 1812. There is no difference between Obama and Romney.

        • Jeff M.

Unfortunately even today a lot of our soldiers fight for a meager paycheck…

        • GUNMANOO1

That's strange, I thought we had an all volunteer army. Seems to me that pay wasn't on their minds Patrick.

It sure wasn't on my mind when I signed up for a 3 year stint back in '66 and again for 2 years in the mid '70s.

          • Patrick Seamus

Indeed, they volunteer and receive a meager paycheck, as opposed to being pressed into service and receiving a meager paycheck. To cling to the belief that our troops are killing and being killed in Afghanistan, Iraq and sundry other battlefields around the globe for our "freedoms" is childish. Wars are fought not for freedom or even victory, but for the colossal profits corporations rake in on the war itself. Our young people and their families are the grist the corporate mill requires to reap huge profits from war; they and their sycophants in Washington wax patriotic all the way to the bank.

    • Bill

Please think this over, because a no vote is a vote for Obama. If you want to protect your gun rights, Romney is the only chose you have. There is a lot at stake in this election, not just gun rights, but the many freedoms we have as Americans. Please, we need every vote we can get. I know it is the better of two evils, but anything is better than soclalism. That is what Obama wants.

    • Joe Donnelly

  • Less Government

Are you Serious??? Do your research before you spill idiotic comments on a gun blog… "Obama hasn't done anything to "Take our guns away!""

    • Jeff M.

Under Obama the only difference in gun legislation is loosening guns laws in national parks.
Honestly, I think Obama doesn't really care about guns. I DO think the Democrats in the House and Senate do, though.
Then again, I also don't think Romney really cares either. But, he does have a REAL history of restricting/banning guns.

      • El Nastro

Yeah, I'll grant that there's probably a higher % of Dem's in the House & Senate with stricter gun laws as part of their agenda, but it's clear that Obama doesn't have an interest in modifying gun laws.

I like shooting, and own a few firearms, but by and large many people in the gun community are not very good thinkers.

      • Robert Augeri

WAKE UP ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE NOT DONE THEIR HOME WORK, INCLUDING ME. MITT ROMNEY IS A LIFE MEMBER OF THE NRA. IF YOU FEEL THIS IS BS CALL THE NRA. WHEN YOU ARE GOVERNOR IN A LIBERAL STATE LIKE MASS. YOU CAN DO ONLY SO MUCH, WAKE UP AND VOTE THE ILLEGAL,MUSLIM,LIAR OUT OF OFFICE. OR GIVE UP YOUR FREEDOMS

        • Scott

He's a life time member that joined two years ago. Not rreally a big part of his life but he can write a big check. He hasn't seen an issue he can't change his mind on so why should we have faith in this reincarnation? He signed an assault weapons ban you can't un-ring a bell. The Dems learned a lesson when they lost the house over gun control, they won't do that again.

        • Smarter than you

$1000 gets anyone a lifetime membership in the NRA (look it up on their website). That isn't even pocket change for Romney. Do as I say, not as I do?

          • Less Government

Then why hasn't Obama done it yet?

        • MRObama2012

          NRA sucks

      • opar5

Jeff, you apparently haven't been paying attention to Obama's surrogates and Hillary at the UN. Their Small Arms Treaty, if ratified by the Senate, will effectively overrule our Second Amendment and we will likely have another rather uncivil war.

        • Jeff M.

Yeah, I'm not the one paying attention. The US (under Obama) killed the Arms Trade Treaty (Source): http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/27/un-arms-…
And it would not have affected US gun owners anyway (Source): http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/untreaty.asp

          • Outlaw

Well they wanted it but a pesky election cropped up. My God Hillary championed for it what more do you need to know??? And please Huffington post, Snopes they are Obama propaganda sites. Just bury your head in the sand. You'll learn just as much that way as reading Obama love.

        • R.D.WYLIE

Jeff you do need to pay attention if OBAMA is
relected you can kiss the 2ND AMD GOODBYE!

    • El Nastro

What, EXACTLY, has he done? I'm still able to buy the exact same stuff in the exact same way.

Apparently you've done the research. Let me know what it is I missed.

      • Ron

Go read about what Hillary is doing in the United Nations under Obama’s rule. Read about the disaster of “Fast and Furious”, I smell cover-up but that’s just my opinion. It’s what he and his party are doing to our rights as Americans. Is he a member of the NRA? (NO) Mitt is a lifelong member; he has shown he can work across party lines to get things done. Bottom line is if Obama gets another 4 years we are all going to feel the hurt not only for our 2nd amendment but the complete American Dream and way of life.

        • Jeff M.

Hillary killed the UN Arms Trade Treaty ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/27/un-arms-… )
Its possible there's something to Fast and Furious, but I doubt we'll ever know it. What Darrell Issa (R) wants to know is what did Obama and Eric Holder talk about regarding Fast and Furious. Why did they come to their conclusions? Unfortunately, that is exactly the kind of conversation protected by Executive Privilege. Very likely only a judge will ever see those e-mails.
Lastly, Mitt has only been a lifelong NRA member for 2 years. I could cough up $1000 today and become a life long member. Not a lot of cash when you're worth close to $100 Million.

          • Outlaw

Hillary didn't kill it all the Senators that wrote Obama and told him it would be dead on arrival if it was allowed to proceed are the ones who killed it and Wayne LaPier and your hated NRA. You people are so blinded by stupidity, and you are even stupid enough to think that you can spew your nonsense to people you do know the truth, Fat chance idiots. I really think you all are members of Obama's re-electon committee and you are desperate to try and make a lump of coal (dirty word to this administration) into a diamond. He's really a clinker. Only coal people know what I mean LOL. But he is just that.

This is true especially since it is likely over the next several years, whoever is president will be appointing some Supreme Court Justices. We already have some examples of the type of individual Obama will appoint.

  • Kainan Lucan

Seems like there are NO "well regulated militias" out there give merit to so many damn gun nut that seem like cowards that need them in the first place…yeah I like how you guys just NEED to have those assault rifles and whatnot-Can I have a NUKE? Why not? Its raaait theeeer in thu CONstitushun that I have a right to bear arms!! Nukes are guns…..Sheesh, get a life losers!

    • opar5

Kainan, can you describe an "assault rifle"- or have any idea what it is? I think not! Our founders left enough quotes to define a "well regulated militia," but putting a modern spin on their words is far more difficult than simply ignoring them as our people are hardly well-educated in either logic or factual history thanks to government controlled schools. Got enuf ammo?

    • oakdale

Obviously you never have even read the Constition of the United States. You seem to want to trash one ammendment but not another which protects your right to free speech. These were set in place to allow you to have this freedom. Nuclear weapons are not guns. From your spelling it indicates a limited vocabulary and ability to spell. As for get a life, you wouldn't be able to say what you have written were it not for the Constitution. If you don't like it move to some other third world country or nation and see what they have to offer you.

    • American Jack

Nukes are not guns. Whats wrong with you? I'm a coward cause I want to protect my family? Do some research. Every morning I get up and "criminals" are killing law abiding citizens. So we should have a BB gun when they break down my front door with an assault weapon. Thats really being a coward. Well I've been training martial arts my whole life and even people like you should know that you don't bring martial arts to a gun fight.

    • dARyl

Don't call me moments before you become a victim

  • Gary

Romney and his running mate Lying Ryan will say whatever to whoever they happen to be in front of at the time. Just look at Romney's history on gun rights and don't pay near as much attention to what he says in front of a NRA gathering because he says what they want to hear and then will do what he wants to do later on. He is a complete flip flopper and his record proves it if you just look it up and not just listen to the Republican propaganda station and Rush Limpdork. Obama's history on guns does not indicate any intent to restrict gun ownership which is direct opposite to Romney. This should get the bashers out LOL.

  • r a worthington

Obama has Hilary doing his dirty work with the United Nations

    • Jeff M.

This garbage again? Obama was AGAINST Arms Trade Treaty. And it would not have affected U.S. gun owners anyway. You need to stop listening to so much Alex Jones and pay attention to the facts: http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/untreaty.asp

      • oakdale

Yeah, and he has no knowledge of the Fast and Furious scandal he authorized thru AG holder. Look at Obamas' record. He has supported and co-authored several gun control bills. He has never supported gun owners in his home state of Illinios. SO why would you expect him to support the rest of the country. You need to review your facts and pay attention.

      • Outlaw

If Obama was against it why was Hillary even there? Why didn't he just tell the UN what GWB told them "NO WAY". Are you really that stupid? Snopes is as biased as any other media outlet and proven that the owners were large contributors to Obama's 2008 campaign. So how biased do you think they are?

  • r a worthington

he is staying out of the limelight this way

  • Ross Walters

Romney could convince me by promising to remove the BATF 'point system' for imported handguns. I think that would enable us legal gun owners to buy all kinds of interesting pistols for cheap that are currently banned for importation.

He could also pledge to promote National right-to-hunt legislation and even open up gun ranges at some of the National Parks.
I find it disturbing that many of the National Cemeteries have erected signs prohibiting concealed-carry especially since the graveyard inhabitants are put in no mortal danger from us law-abiding citizens.

There's a lot of things Romney could say and/or do to motivate gun-owners to vote for him. But other than some lip service he paid NRA convention attendees he's been deafeningly silent on the subject.

I don't think either Obama nor Romney has the guts to stand up there and telll us how they REALLY feel about guns (nor most any other subject).

    • Jeff M.

"I don't think either Obama nor Romney has the guts to stand up there and telll us how they REALLY feel about guns"

Exactly. I don't feel either is actually pushing one way or the other. Like the National Parks thing, I think it will have to do with what is attached to legislation they want.

  • SGTMAJOR

Look at the history of Hitler confiscate the guns and no resistance from the peasant's.

  • Rickie

Maybe some of you have not heard what Hillary is doing behind our backs and secretly trying to past a gun ban treaty with the United Nations. They don't care what people want, it's what Obama wants but won't tell you. They are trying to disarm us behind close doors just like they passed Obamacare. Wake up people before it's too late. If Obama wins another 4 years we will lose our 2nd Amendment rights just like the churchs are losing their religous freedoms under Obama. Most democrats don't pay taxes. Biden payed $ 2,000 in taxes. My wife and I payed $12,000 in taxes. Middle class are the one's that pay the most taxes. Obama is going to make sure it stays that way

    • Jeff M.

Obama was against the UN Arms Trade Treaty, which is why it failed: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/27/un-arms-…
Obamacare was debated in public from September 2009 to March 2010 and was televised on CSPAN. Not exactly closed doors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patient_Protection_a…
And the ~40% of Americans that don't pay taxes are mostly children, non-working elderly, and people with low base incomes, such as enlisted military personnel. But if you want to go after them for taxes go right ahead.
I just wish we could talk about real issues instead of this type of garbage…

      • CMac

Love those reputable sources! Research requires more than looking at what's easiest.

    • joe donnelly

someone tell you that. any references

    • MRObama2012

And Mitt Romney paid no taxes for 10 years. If it is not true then why won't he release his tax returns?

      • CMac

If it is true, why isn't he in jail?

        • Jeff M

You can offset your tax payments with deductions. For example, donating money to the church. You're still paying money, just not in taxes to the government.

      • Outlaw

Worry about your taxes and my taxes not Romneys taxes. Do any rich people pay taxes? BTW there are rich Democrats that don't pay taxes either but for some reason they never get talked about like the Republican rich. Why? MR BARRY 2012

        • MRObama2012

Mitt is running for president and he is stashing his money in overseas accounts and you don't think that is wrong?

  • SGTMAJOR

George Soros Nazi will make sure that he will shut down our constitution. Vote OBAMA OUT OF OFFICE.

    • Gary

You really should do some research before you beat your gums together and put out a load of BS. A vote for Romney is a vote to destroy our economy which is doing better than it was in the Bush years in spite of a do nothing Republican controlled House. If Romney is elected you can kiss the middle class goodbye and seniors on medicare and social security can kiss that goodbye too.

      • SGTMAJOR

Read his fathers BIO I lived thru that era. You really should listen how he made his money. I was middle class I spent 30 years in the service. Came out and went to work in the automotive industry.

      • SGTMAJOR

Hey Gary watch the 60 minutes interview with George Soros or don't you like the truth.

      • SGTMAJOR

Gary, your not old enough to watch me beat my gums together you voted for Bill Clinton and Obama

      • oakdale

Glad to see you like the way the economy is going. 16 trillion in new debt. More than all the previous presidents combined. 8.1% unemployment. The highest in years. Yet he and his family take vacations all over at taxpayer expense. Yep, sounds good.

      • Outlaw

So if what Bush did is the reason we are in so bad of shape now the it must be that what 1st Bush did was why people think Bill Clinton was the greatest man that ever lived. Elder Bush left him all that success to inheiret. And thats why by the last two years of his eightthat things started to go so wrong. The originator of the banking mess that we have paid for since 2000. And abou this great economy we are living in I don't think the million's that are unemployed working at McDonalds for minimum wage because their good job is gone and that is all thye can find and to those who are so hopeless that they don't even look any longer I don't think they would be in much agreement with you on the good economy comment. Obama has proven he can do nothing. Romneys chance to either do more or get ousted in 2016.

    • Jerry

      Isn't George Soros Jewish?

      • SGTMAJOR

Yes and he worked for SS in Hungary during the war 1944 See interview on 60 min on utube

  • Clay Houser

Whew, I didn't expect so many comments to reflect negatively on Romney, though I agree that he isn't much of a candidate. Somehow, despite the recent shootings, firearms regulation hasn't been a topic of either campaign. That's fine with me, I don't have any fear of Obama taking my guns away, and I do fear what Romney's economic plans would do to the country, so my decision is pretty easy. If the general public can't afford guns and ammunition (which is already too expensive for most of us), then the second amendment doesn't have any effect at all. We need a strong economy based on a rational and logical plan, not one based on what must be said to satisfy primary voters. Romney, for better or worse, has twisted himself into a pretzel trying to please everyone, and all he proved is that he can't be trusted by anyone. It's a shame.

  • Jeff M.

I love all this talk about potentially losing our freedoms. Where were you guys when the PATRIOT Act was being signed!? I, for one, miss my 4th Amendment!

    • oakdale

Where were you? Hiding beneath a table or in a closet for fear of being attacked by terrorists? You really sound like a liberal. Most of the patriot act has expired. So if you really miss the 4th Amendment, how do you explain your lack of concern over the 2nd?

      • Jeff M

I was busy writing my house reps and senators NOT to sign. And writing Obama not to extend it. But he ignored me, just like my reps did.

  • SGTMAJOR

Well you should all read the bio on George Romney and American Motors since Obama has been elected we lost 23 million jobs because he want's to keep the country on food stamps. So I was middle class and I thought we were going to win this battle but along came Bill Clinton and NFTA act. All of the jobs went out of the country Ross Perot said that would happen. 19,000 tool companies went
out of business. Where were the bail out's on the business that went out.

    • James

Hey dummy, I'm sure you meant NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement. You know all those jobs you're talking about being outsourced? You should look at what countries those jobs are going to. It's estimated that we may have lost 700,000 jobs to NAFTA while almost double that are lost to India alone. Last I checked countries in ASIA were not in NORTH AMERICA. We need to curb corporate greed and bring these manufacturing jobs back home and not spout this ignorant, redneck, chest thumping BS.

      • SGTMAJOR

Your the dummy funny you called a redneck because your ignorant and probably getting food stamps from the administration. Nice going get a job.

        • SGTMAJORSADUMMY

Nice rebuttal? Typically when you have a debate you form your thoughts cohesively, obviously that's not the case for you since you're post makes it apparent that you lack the educational background to form a grammatically sound response. I'm happy with my job, thanks. Perhaps you should be more concerned with the state of education our country is in since you are obviously a direct product of a failing system.

          • SGTMAJOR

            I are sorry… you're right. I am a dummy…

          • GUNMANOO1

SGT, ignore those idiots. It's very clear that we have a bunch of liberals on here pretending to be gun owners. They're desperate cause they know Obama's chances of getting another 4 yrs are getting slimmer by the day.

            ROCK OF THE MARNE SGT

      • Outlaw

That is Clintons baby. Welfare and food stamps equal vote buying. How else could Obama have any chance? His work hasn't earned him another chance.

        • Bob

You people are so freaking selfish. What's wrong with giving the poor a leg up? It's Bush Jr. that got us in this mess with 8 years of failed policy. You can't expect a man to come into office after 8 years of that crap and fix it with absolutely no cooperation from the side that screwed us up to begin with.

  • JimmyF

So many liberals in this place !!

Wake up Obama is not attcking gun owners yet because he needs vote in Nov . If elected watch out kids he will show his rwal colors..

    • Jeff M.

I've heard this many times. Can anyone actually explain the logic? In 2009, there were Democratic majorities in the Senate and House. In 2010, the house went Republican. In 2012 the Senate might as well.
How, in the world, would it make sense to go after anything radical in 2013 and after? This has just never made any sense….

      • Steve

Jeff… It's easier if you don't think about it. Fear mongering and making wild insinuations has always been a republican tactic. It scares the sheeple into fearing the terrifying Democratic machine! There's really no point in arguing with blind bigoted foolishness.

        • Outlaw

It's always the big bad Republicans can't you jerk dems get it in your head what American means? We are in this together but reps are Naxi's wow what class your leaders show and you call repubs low lifes. Next civil War not north vs south, but dems vs repubs. If you don't get it that we are all Americans we are going to be Chinese before long and wonder how much bitchng you'll get to do when the reds run the country.

          • Waltuo

Hide behind you're made in China American flag. Why is everything a war to you people? No one called Republicans low lives, those words are yours and I don't disagree. The only piece of valid information Romney has given about any of his politics is that he plans on cutting taxes to those who make over 3mil a year. The initial response makes the point that trickle down economics is worthless to 99% of us. I'm an American, not the property of some corporation. Keep blinding yourself to what's happening to this country and you'll find yourself property of corporate America…

  • Joe wess

Two new Supreme Court Judges to be picked over the next 4 years and if Obama gets in he will appoint big time liberal judges .

Your rights as gun owners will be attacked ..

  • JMB

I'll trade my vote for a 9mm Hi-Power. Any takers? Just kidding. I'm still undecided.

  • Imalarduss

Did you watch the Olympics on NBC and see the interview between good buddy Mitt and NBC commentator and NRA member Brian where Mitt tells Brian 2nd amendment supporters wanted the Bill & Hillary gun ban and that's the reason he voted for it? That's your pro gun/pro 2nd amendment candidate for you.

  • Craig

A Generic Focus on Freedom? Really? That's one his keys? A "generic" focus. That is quite a reach.

  • Jeepers Creepers

I was for Mitt Romney before he chose Paul Ryan has V.P.. I really hate Obama. But I do not want Ryan any where near the oval office. So now I have to the dumbest thing and vote for Obama. I'm still working and Ryan is anti JOB and so must be MITT since he choose him has V.P.. Maybe the world will end like they say this year and I will not have to worry about who is President.

    • Outlaw

How can you think Ryan is worse than Biden? Sarah Palin was ridiculed for being dumb but compared to Biiden my dog has more inteligence. And it will be not the dumbest thing but the stupidest thing if you vote for Obama. Really Ryan's plan isn't the evil plan that the Dems have sold it as, that is unless you are on the draw, won't work and never plan to work then you better vote for the guy that will pay you not to even look for a job to get your welfare check. Good ole' Barry.

  • James

Regardless of the points made in the article, you'd be stupid to vote for a candidate based on one talking point. Gun control is not the only issue going into the 2012 elections. Take the bullets out of your ears and listen to the candidates. Vote for the guy you think is best for America all around, not the guy who may or may not share your opinion about one trivial topic.

  • Larry

I just had a comment deleted for stating what I felt… so much for freedom of speech.

    • Jeff M

I feel for you. Though, technically Freedom of Speech applies only to the government. If you get your teeth kicked in at a bar for something you said, but you aren't arrested, you still have your freedom of speech.

  • Wyatt

Gentlemen, your passion is admirable, but there is already enough hatred to go all around. The tendency to listen to any ideas are much deminished when the words are dripping with disdain. We all still have much to learn and even more to loose, I'm afraid. As an anthropologist and a historian I can assure you that the best time this world has seen is many years gone. In that light, to you warriors, arm up. You wil need all you can get. To you non-warriors, go cultivate your organic gardens, but leave room on your land for your final resting place for you will definately need it. For all of you, vote or do not vote. Follow your conscience. It is your right. Now is the time for men of honor and valor.

    • Corporal

Sir, yours is about the only smart comment I've seen on this entire thread.

    • Outlaw

Good post Wyatt, to bad the Liberals think your crazy, that the government will solve all the problems of the world by taking money from the rich and giving it to those who won't work, never have worked, and never will work so who is gonna grow those organic gardens? There will be a food bank when the SHTF won't there, what, really there won't? WHTF, who do they complain to?

  • Tim-LV

I have to wonder if there are infiltrators on the board.

    • Outlaw

Yes and they work for the DNC. They must be really out of it if they believe any real gun owner believes any of these crybaby posts.

  • Imalarduss

The talk about arming yourself and lots of ammo may make you feel better but you can't really believe the social democrats are going to play fair and storm your fortress when it comes to taking your guns and anything else they think they want. They'll call out their military and launch a rocket from an airborne attack machine, fixed wing or otherwise, from half a dozen miles away and you, like your freedoms and your guns and ammo, will be history.

    • Jeff M

We've just received word from opar5 that there are over 3 dozen (!) Muslim training camps in the US!
We've found one now, and have intelligence that they have a cache of weapons and have been stockpiling ammunition.
We've dispatched a drone to take them out! (Screen cuts to Imalarduss' house. House is destroyed in missile strike.)
See citizens! We're working to keep you all very safe! Enjoy some Victory Gin!

  • jiminga

Does anyone really think gun enthusiasts will vote for Obama instead of Romney? Sure, Romney flip-flopped, but that's what politicians do….bend with the wind.

    • Jeff M

I think it's more that gun enthusiasts will look at Romney's record and stay home November 6th.

      • jiminga

Anyone who stay's home deserves the government they get.

    • Wyatt

Congratulations, jiminga; you do get it. I tip my Green Beret to you…and wonder (at the same time) what Tim-LV is thinking.

      • Tim-LV

I just wonder if maybe we have non-gun people within our ranks trying to sway the under informed.

  • SGTMAJOR

Biden,Polusi,Boxer, Finstien,Ried,Schummer, all wrote the assault weapons bill along with Hilary. Does that ring any bells.

    • Outlaw

Does with me, some of these other idiots not so much because Huffington Post said "it ain't so" or Snopes didn't find any evidence that it was true, ROTFLMAO LOL

      • Jeff M

        Don't forget Fox news.

        • Keven

If Hannity or O'reilly says it happened then gosh darn-it it must have. It's not like Fox would make up that kind of stuff right?

  • Kurrian

The United States of America might survive Barack Obama, but what it cannot survive is an electorate that would vote him into office a second time. The inability to admit a mistake and then to deny having done so by repeating it sounds the death knell for our country as we've known it.
Obama's goal is to reduce the status of the United States to that of just another developed country, another member of the herd, to be neither admired nor loathed by the others. Since that cannot be accomplished by raising the others to our level, it must be done by lowering us to theirs.
In keeping with that objective, the possession of firearms by private citizens is one of the things that cannot be allowed. So, if Romney's not your cup of tea, my Second Amendment enthusiasts, your alternative is to have Obama be your cup of hemlock.

  • Starky

How sad it has become in this great nation of ours with 260 million people and we have to vote for the lesser of two evils. Would it not be nice to be able to vote for a fire and brimstone take a stand canidate. The kind that use to run for office. They are all politicians with the agenda they talk about and there own personal agenda. I do not recall the move but the line goes I'm a politician and when I'm not kissing babies I'm steeling there candy." When it comes to politics trust no one, expect nothing and you will never be disapointed.

I myself don't like either one & I know for sure it won't be for Obama for I don't like him more then Mit…

Voting for the obomny will prove that none of you truly care to change this country for the better. Both are very destructive and have a history of destroying what once made this nation strong. It seems that the NRA cares more about renual fees than actually supporting a candidate that has a history of actually supporting our constitutional rights. I won't be giving them any more of my money because of their horrible choice to endorse mittens all the while knowing his very anti-second amendment history. As some one typed before me "you can't unring the bell" and it's high time we Americans started voting on principal rather than based on what fox news or talk radio (romny is a big owner in clear channel) tells us to think. Both major partys have failed this nation so fire them and quit making the choice of the lessor of 2 evils because it is still a vote for evil. A parent says to their kid "if you're going to steel a candybar don't steel the king size one but steel the medium sized one because it is the lessor of 2 evils". Don't vote in evil…..

    • Ben Vonacke

I'm with you brother, unfortunately our government is broken. There are only 2 parties and 2 candidates. Anyone who says differently is fooling themselves.

I believe I read Obama make a comment that he will pay more attention to guns after he is re-elected. So, he may decide to tax ammo more or use some sort of ridiculous ban. Like limiting all mags to 10 rds..

I do believe he may attempt to try to tax ammo or resurrect some iteration of the 'Assault Weapons Ban'. I really do believe he may do SOMETHING after all the recent shootings, just not WHILE HE IS RUNNING FOR ELECTION.

Romney is also wise to side with pro-gunners so that he may be reelected. Reports are that approximately 30+% of us Americans own guns. I am wise enough to read about Romney and realize his play in the earlier weapons ban. Romney does not have good gun history. Both of these guys are playing us. It is obvious just listening to them speak!

I do not like how things are right now with President Obama. I want good for him and our nation, but I think we need a new President. Times are difficult right now and we need someone who does more than just speak and spend money.

I do greatly appreciate the 'Park Carry' gun law they passed. That was a smart one! Everyone knows the bad guys use parks to prey on women and other unsuspecting people. Now they may think twice knowing that woman may be armed or the man sitting on the bench may be legally packin'.

Sure, times are good with our guns laws now, but after the next President is elected I can easily imagine a 10rd mag limit being enacted–or trying to be passed. I am not sure it will go through. It better not!

All these people saying semi-auto rifles are evil are living in the stone age. They wouldn't know the difference between an M9 and an S&W Model 29! The media's negative beliefs towards firearms has most to do with it. Of course, all media does is report death and destruction. They should report how many people are saved by firearms! I heard that certain other nations' news media is a lot more positive–and so may be the life of those nations' people.

In order to stop armed bad guys we must ourselves be armed and ready–whether that bad guy be a home intruder or an invading nation.

If you are anti-gun I advise you to go to the gun range and take a course in firearms safety and learn how to shoot. Then you will not be so afraid that us good guys own guns. Afterwards if you were to purchase a firearm yourself, with safe practice you would need not fear an intruder in you home. Furthermore, with a CHL license you may lawfully protect yourself or others in public. Good day!

Gun owner. Retired military. Public servant
My 28 years of service tell me one thing, the elite monied class will do whatever they want to you when you elect one of them.

GOP representatives and senators are voting to erode everything to help the working man.

The political class, when they come for our guns, is going to do it slowly, because they all want one thing, — to win elections. Democracy will keep guns legal.

Only a fool, thief or wealthy person could vote for Mr. Romney.

Jensen, mind telling us how Obama seems immune to the lethal Islamic doctrine and Shariah law on apostates – which converting from Islam defines? One Muslim strength is patience; another is "taqiyya:" Arabic for Divine deceit to advance Islam. Such ignorance as yours can be overcome by reviewing http://www.politicalislam.com
