Alexander Arms Relinquishes 6.5 Grendel Trademark

by Guns & Ammo News   |  October 31st, 2011 6

6.5 GrendelAlexander Arms has announced it will relinquish the trademark for the 6.5 Grendel, now the official cartridge of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI).

“One of the primary purposes of trademarking the name was to protect the integrity of the design. With the adoption of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge standard by SAAMI, the design is now protected, and any confusion in the marketplace as to the specification of the cartridge has been eliminated,” said Bill Alexander in a press release issued last week.

SAAMI’s adoption of the 6.5 Grendel’s design specifications led Alexander Arms to relinquish its federal trademark for the cartridge. “6.5 Grendel” will now become the commercial name for cartridges that adhere to SAAMI specifications.

Alexander Arms said the company is proud that the cartridge has received such recognition, adding it “is pleased to take this important step in the continued market development of this breakthrough cartridge.”

Good move. 6.5 is better than a .270. Better bullet selection.

I LOVE THE 6.5GRENDEL. LOOKS LIKE A 357 CASE WITH A BULLET ON TOP. I CANT WAIT TO SEE A HOG NOW AND USE IT FOR WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT. AR-15 EASE OF CARRY, POWER ENOUGH FOR HUNTING.

Hopefully I won't have to drop $1000 for an HBAR upper now. Are you listening Rock River Arms?

    I have built myself 3 AR's in this caliber. 16" 20" and 24" barrels.
I don't care what its called, it is the best all around cartridge in an AR-15 platform.
Using the Lapua 123 gr Scenar Bullets its still supersonic and stable to over 1200 yards.

If you want to go longer, use the 260 Rem on an LR-308 platform.
You can shoot the 123 or 139 gr Scenars in it out to 1600 yards.

i seriously doubt those ranges, and this is a descent round at best. there is a reason its not that popular.

It's a fine cartridge, but not something to wax orgasmic over. Quite accurate as all 6.5's seem to be, out to the 800 yds I've managed to test it so far. Now that SAAMI has conferred their benediction on it, it will likely gain popularity.
