The New Leupold VX R Patrol Illuminated Riflescope

by Guns & Ammo News   |  August 9th, 2011 7

Leupold VX-R Patrol Illuminated RiflescopeThe new Leupold VX R Patrol Illuminated Riflescope features proprietary powered fiber optic technology in an exclusive FireDot reticle to provide law enforcement, military and other tactical shooters with target acquisition, in the bright light of day as well as the low light of dawn or dusk.

The VX-R Patrol is available in a 1.25-4x20mm model with the FireDot Special Purpose Reticle (SPR) and a 3-9x40mm model with the FireDot Tactical Milling Reticle (TMR).

The VX-R Patrol has a single push button illumination system with Leupold’s own Motion Sensor Technology (MST).  A touch of the button illuminates the dot within the reticle.  By repeatedly pressing the button, the user can select between eight different intensity settings including a high-low indicator, which flashes when either the maximum or minimum intensity is reached.  After five minutes of inactivity, the illumination system automatically switches to stand-by mode, but reactivates at the same intensity setting whenever the rifle is moved.

In addition, the FireDot reticle in the VX-R Patrol has a fiber optic light pipe with a precisely cut and meticulously polished tip designed to deliver an illuminated dot that can be easily seen in bright light, yet is not overpowering in low-light conditions.  Once activated, the dot illuminates with bright, sharp definition, while the rest of the reticle remains non-illuminated.  This combination leads the eye naturally to the center aiming point and makes target acquisition quick, precise and simple.

The FireDot SPR is designed for instinctive, close-range/low-magnification situations, yet   allows shooters to engage targets with greater precision at longer ranges than generally possible with other reticle styles.  Expanding on existing Mil Dot reticles, the FireDot TMR offers increased ranging precision and accuracy.

The VX-R Patrol is backed by Leupold’s Full Lifetime Guarantee. For more information visit a local dealer, go to www.leupold.com.

I have the full size fire dot on my ruger .308 set up especially for pigs, which are a low light activity. It works very well and I highly recommend this scope. It is well made, and clear. I love it.

Looks like a good scope for my FAL.

Leupold nailed it on the VX-R Patrol series. Very clear glass, no edge blur, love the adjustable FireDot reticle, external turrets, solid durability. Have both the 1-4x and 3-9x Patrol models. They are about the best value for any tactical optic.

Which is better for small varmints out to 200 yards. Will go on an AR 15.

I agree completely! I bought the 3-9 originally for my IMBEL FAL. The TMR is so good, I ordered the 1.5 x 4 for my FAL and I'm Mounting the 3-9 on a 7.62 light tactical rifle in 7.62. The glass is unbelievably clear and bright and the reticle is so sharp, I think the 1000 meters worth of ranging will be more than enough for a 20" barreled Remington 700.

What are the options for holstering a weapon with the sight for Concealed Carry? I normally carry a Sig 239 and a CompTac IWB.

  • Sivispace

I wonder how well it would work on my FAL
